Australian software company releases

new post production software

Sydney – 7 April 2004: Australian software developer PopSoft IT today announced the release of their new Windows-based negative matching software application called Film Fusion.

The software is designed to drastically reduce the time needed to match film negative for a cinema or television release. Pioneering the use of the software, Australian post-production companies have already seen the time required to create cut lists and EDLs (Edit Decision Lists) reduced by more than 80%.

“Film Fusion will create a new industry standard,” said Matthew Kane, Film Fusion’s developer and founder of PopSoft IT. “It has been six years since there was any significant development in the software available. Meanwhile the film industry has changed dramatically and is racing toward the digital realm,” he added.

Advances in Film Fusion allow Negative Matchers to seamlessly and accurately process EDLs (Edit Decision Lists) and log film rushes to produce frame accurate cut lists for conforming work print or negative. The software allows for the complete management of all phases of the conforming process.

Film Fusion’s key features include:

  • Windows 2000, XP and XP Pro compatible.
  • Matchback capability between video and film to create cut lists, optical lists, dupe lists and pull lists.
  • Creates frame count lists for scanning.
  • Creates grading and notching EDLs as well as online EDLs (reverse telecine).
  • Accurate desktop logging of film using keycode scanners.
  • Reliable telecine log importing.
  • Import and export to XML and Excel and to industry standard file formats such as Flex, ALE, OSC/R, CMX 3400 & CMX 3600 EDLs.
  • Compatible with 16mm and 35mm 4 perf, 3 perf and 2 perf.
  • Enhanced error detection.
  • PAL and NTSC compatible.

Film Fusion is already being successfully used at three Sydney post production companies - Vision Matching, Negthink and Chris Rowell Productions.

A Film Fusion software license (PAL and NTSC) starts at AUD$7,000 with volume discounts also available.
